Breakdown
- Activision Blizzard is bringing Call of Duty to Game Pass
- The announcement will be coming soon, potentially during June's Xbox Showcase
- Microsoft could lose millions of dollars through physical and digital copies
It looks like Call of Duty 2024 will be coming to Xbox Game Pass this year, which is a major change for this long-running franchise. There were reports claiming that Microsoft wanted this to happen for quite some time and it looks like the company’s executives finally made it happen.
According to The Wall Street Journal, Microsoft is set to announce the new CoD game on Game Pass sooner than we think. Should everything go according to plan, there’s a very good chance that Activision Blizzard will announce the shooter for Game Pass during next month’s showcase for the title.
We don’t know if Microsoft will be making any changes for Game Pass to bring Call of Duty to the service. There were rumours that Microsoft would raise the price of Game Pass, but that wasn’t part of TWSJ’s report.
Many fans and insiders had assumed that CoD would never join the service, as the series is seemingly too valuable for immediate Game Pass release. Regardless of each entry’s quality, these games sell in the millions upon release, as fans can’t help but buy every installment.
There are rumours that this new Call of Duty game is set to be a return to Black Ops, with plenty of evidence suggesting that’s the case. Obviously, we’ll have to wait for the game’s reveal before jumping to conclusions, so it’s a good thing players won’t be waiting too long.
Similar to last year’s Starfield reveal, the new Call of Duty game will be announced after the next major Xbox Showcase in June. While Microsoft and Activision Blizzard are playing coy about this game’s reveal, all signs point to it being a CoD game. After last year’s disappointing Modern Warfare 3, there’s nowhere else for this franchise to go but up, hopefully.
A new Call of Duty game is set to be announced in the next Xbox Showcase, which takes place on June 9. If everything here is true, expect the game to be announced for Game Pass, which could sell a lot of Xbox systems.
