Breakdown
- Fans are trying to guess the name of this year's Call of Duty
- The popular guesses are Black Ops V or Black Ops Gulf War
- In the end, Activision Blizzard need to redeem themselves after Modern Warfare 3
Activision Blizzard has all but confirmed a new Call of Duty game is being revealed soon and fans think they may have uncovered the name. Many have assumed that it would be called Black Ops Gulf War, but there’s another popular guess fans are hoping for.
Leaker and CoD player Hope claims that the game is going to be called Call of Duty: Black Ops V, which would be pretty straightforward. The leaker claims that they uncovered the original post’s redacted bar to get this, though readers should take this with a grain of salt.
Call of Duty fans will remember that Black Ops 4 decided to abandon single-player and be a full multiplayer battle royale, which received a mixed reaction at the time. Since that game’s release, every other CoD game has had some sort of single-player campaign, even a poor one like Modern Warfare 3. It’s fair to assume that this new Black Ops game will have another solo campaign for gamers to enjoy.
More information will be shared soon, as the new CoD game will seemingly be revealed this June alongside another Xbox Games Showcase. This is the same strategy Microsoft did with Starfield, releasing a separate direct for that game after Xbox’s lineup, showing how much they respect the shooter.
With Modern Warfare 3 being a major disappointment to many in the single-player department, there’s nowhere to go but up for Call of Duty. In the end, it doesn’t matter if the game is called Black Ops Gulf War or Black Ops V, fans just want a competent and fun shooter. Right now, the bare minimum is a single-player campaign that doesn’t rely on reused maps, so the bar is low.
Details on the new Call of Duty game will be revealed next month, on June 9. In the meantime, fans can purchase Warzone for free or Modern Warfare 3 for full price.
