It's been a few years since the idea of M3GAN joining Dead by Daylight was first discussed, and the excitement has only grown.
The game has had its fair share of horror icons, from Michael Myers to the Xenomorph, and even Nicolas Cage. This brings us to the question: could M3GAN, the AI doll from the 2022 movie, be the next killer to join the fray?
Roughly two years ago, fans began talking about M3GAN as a killer in forums, with many wondering how she would fit into the game. Back then, fans were still shocked by how well other unlikely additions like Chucky did, especially with the early doubts about how his small size would fit into the game. Behaviour Interactive still managed to pull it off, showing that even small-sized killers can make a real splash.
This opened up discussions about other characters of similar standing, with M3GAN being one of the top mentions. One of the main points fans raised early on was M3GAN’s size.
Although both she and Chucky are child-sized, it didn't take long for fans to notice that Dead by Daylight had already introduced smaller killers like The Hag, whose height is comparable to M3GAN’s.
Behaviour Interactive mentioned that size probably isn’t as big a deal as people think, especially with how flexible they can get with each killer’s gameplay mechanics. According to TheGamer's interview with the game’s creative director, Jean Escalante, the team isn’t necessarily opposed to adding smaller killers, as they’ve already demonstrated with The Twins and Victor. So, M3GAN’s smaller size doesn’t automatically rule her out as a threat in the game.
Escalante, despite admitting he hadn’t seen the film himself, expressed a genuine desire to see M3GAN join Dead by Daylight. Aside from her physical stature, M3GAN’s capabilities as an AI-driven character open up intriguing possibilities. In the film, M3GAN is depicted as an intelligent AI that learns, adapts, and outwits those around her.
This would result in a killer with sophisticated tech, which Dead by Daylight hasn’t delved into much. Fans have been quick to theorize how M3GAN could fit into the game’s mechanics.
Some suggest her hacking could shut down things like generators or survivor tools, while others think she could use her voice to trick players into thinking they’re hearing other survivors or threats nearby.
As more people rally behind M3GAN, the hype for her coming to Dead by Daylight keeps building. Although Behaviour Interactive has yet to confirm anything, it’s evident that fans are excited to discover the new strategies and gameplay features M3GAN might bring.
