Cyberpunk 2077's design director and principal designer, Mateusz Kanik, has announced that he's left the company. Having worked at CD Projekt Red for 15 years since starting on the original Witcher game, he's now working as a freelancer.
According to The Gamer, no official statement regarding Kanik’s leaving was released by CD Projekt Red, though Kanik himself went on Twitter stating “Something ends, Something begins.” Kanik’s LinkedIn account also revealed that he was no longer at the Polish developer.

Cyberpunk 2077 Design Director Leaves CD Projekt Red
For the unfamiliar, Kanik was the Gameplay Designer of The Witcher 2: Assassin of Kings and originally worked on Cyberpunk 2077 as the game’s main Director. Later on, he was moved to the Design Director role of Cyberpunk 2077, along with the Principal Designer role.
It’s not yet known what Mateusz Kanik will do next, but we at Gfinity wish him the best in his future endeavours. Cyberpunk 2077 is available now on PS4, Xbox One, PC, and Google Stadia, with a PS5 and Xbox Series X upgrade slated for release later this year.
