The Final Shape is shaping (no pun intended) up to be a massive milestone for Bungie and Destiny 2 fans as the developers have revealed a brand-new subclass that will allow players to wield Light and Darkness powers - Prismatic.
Unveiled during The Final Shape livestream on April 9 right before the Into the Light update went live, Bungie stated that this new subclass will be a tool provided by the Traveler as a means to stand a chance against The Witness.
Guardians first wielded Darkness powers with the 2020 expansion Beyond Light, getting access to Stasis. Later, in 2023 with the arrival of Lightfall, players learned how to manifest the power of Strand.
Many fans had assumed that with The Final Shape, a third Darkness subclass would arrive with rumblings of the now-infamous Poison subclass potentially making its debut, in order to even out the number of Light and Darkness subclasses, however, Bungie's are definitely more ambitious.
As explained during The Final Shape livestream, Prismatic will let players pick a custom build using abilities from Light (Solar, Void, and Arc) and Darkness (Stasis and Strand). In total, players will have the power to pick a different class ability, grenade, and melee.
When using Prismatic, a new bar below the Super meter will appear, as you deal damage with both Light and Darkness abilities it'll fill up until it's completely full, when Guardians will unlock a new power called transcendence, letting them unleash a powerful new grenade that combines the power of two subclasses.
For Hunters, it'll be Solar and Stasis, for Titans Strand and Arc, and for Warlocks Void and Stasis. On top of that, activating transcendence will also give Guardians a damage boost that stacks with others, and instantly refills both your grenade and melee.
Fans are undoubtedly excited but also wary of the repercussions this could have on PvP as it could throw a wrench to the meta and how it's been played for the past few years, with optimal builds perhaps being too strong to have any room for experimentation.
All questions will be, hopefully, answered when The Final Shape is released on June 4 for PC, Xbox Series S/X, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, and PlayStation 4.
