How to beat Astaroth in Diablo 4 Season 1

The Diablo 4 Astaroth boss is a demon, one of Mephisto's own Guardians. While he has been trapped in the depths of Scosglen for years, he's made his return thanks to Lilith's rise to power. During the game's second act, you'll see just how this occurs.

In the Entombed Legacy main quest, you follow Donan as he searches the crypts for Astaroth's soulstone. Eventually, you'll both realise that Lilith has plunged the Soulstone into the head of Donan's son, Yorin. This caused near-instant corruption, allowing Astaroth to materialise in Sanctuary.

Shortly thereafter, you'll get a main quest called As the World Burns. Then, you'll head to Cerrigar to finish Astaroth before he can lay waste to the rest of Scosglen.

Astaroth boss abilities

The Diablo 4 Astaroth boss fight has multiple phases, though this is mostly because your opponent likes to move to other areas of the town. Still, his abilities will remain the same all throughout the encounter, albeit intensifying as time goes on. Here are the attacks that you'll want to beware of:

  • Cerberus Leap - Astaroth rides on top of the Amalgam of Rage Gestation, a mini-boss that you fought earlier in the campaign. Akin to the three-headed dog, Cerberus, it will periodically leap towards your location. It is quite hard to avoid as, even if you attempt to dodge, the mere size of the creature will still cause it to hit you. At best, you can simply tank the hit.
  • Hell Breath - From time to time, the Cerberus-like giant dog will breathe fire in a frontal arc. This can be avoided by dodging or moving to the side just as it starts its casting animation.
  • Meteor Shower - Whenever Astaroth spins his scythe, it signals the start of this move. In a short while, several red circles will appear on the ground, followed by fiery meteors striking the location. Just move out of the way and you should be safe.
  • Hellspawn Summon - The boss will also summon weaker enemy mobs from time to time. Ideally, you'll want to take them out to avoid issues. I mained a Necromancer here, which made the fight a breeze. I was using Blood Surge to take out the smaller enemies, while my minions kept whittling down the boss' health.

Last but not least, your monstrous opponent has three health segments. That means there are three instances where he can drop multiple orbs that can restore your potion charges. Make note of this so you'll know when to best use your healing flasks.

With a bit of luck, you should be able to defeat the Diablo 4 Astaroth boss. Mind you, this is just one of the challenges that awaits you in the campaign.
