What is G Rank?
G Rank, otherwise known as 'Great Rank' has been a feature in Monster Hunter for a long time, it basically makes certain hunts a higher difficulty than what they are usually. Previously this is not released with the base game and instead are included in expansions and DLCs. Monsters are stronger and certain types will only spawn at G Rank. There are even maps that don't unlock until a player reaches this rank. For newer members, this feature likely won't be too appealing for but for seasoned players, it's a perfect way to enjoy the game with a bit more of a challenge.
Does Monster Hunter Rise Have G Rank?
So far there is no sign of G Rank within Monster Hunter Rise at launch, though this doesn't mean that will be the case permanently. As mentioned earlier a few titles in the series released G Rank within expansions. Going off of previous Monster Hunter games, Generations and World, it looks like the DLCs including this feature usually release about two years after the titles initial launch. Capcom has actually commented on the query, in October 2020 when interviewed by 4Gamer, Producer Ryozo Tsujimoto had this to say (translated by Siliconera):
"We plan to release Event Quests after Monster Hunter Rise releases. We’ll also do title updates. However, we’ve yet to consider something like the aforementioned ‘G‘ or Monster Hunter World: Iceborne. There’s still a lot more that we need to do before that.”
For now, we'll have to wait for G Rank but in the meantime dive into Rise with our walkthrough's help. If you're a new player and just want to get to grips with the title before even thinking about this feature then check out our beginner guide here!
