Have you ever thought about what it means to govern a kingdom? Dragon Quest 3 Remake gives you the chance to become royalty.

Wearing a crown and ruling a kingdom could seem like a dream, but the life of a wandering hero might still call to you.

This article helps you abandon the crown and reclaim your role as a hero.

How to Become King or Queen of Romaria

During your adventure, you’ll undertake a mission to recover the King’s Crown from the bandit Robbin’ ‘Ood in Skyfell Tower.

Recover the crown from the bandit and deliver it to the King of Romaria.

In recognition of your bravery, the King surprises everyone by stepping down and naming you the new ruler of Romaria.

As King or Queen, you’ll don regal attire, and the townspeople will react to you differently.

But with your new royal status, you cannot cross some boundaries.

You can no longer leave the city; your team is untraceable, and your quest has hit a dead end.

Ruling isn’t ideal for a hero meant to save the world.

How to Stop Being King or Queen

To give up your royal role, you must find the former king, who has wandered off to pursue his passion for gambling.

Speak with NPCs around the castle and town to gather hints about his whereabouts.

They'll drop a clue about him being at the Monster Arena. This arena is in the basement beneath the item and weapon shops in Romaria.

Use the Slime icon on the map to guide you to the entrance.

When you enter the Monster Arena, go past the Bank and information desk, then head to the stairs for the seating area.

Head to the left side of the stands, where the former king is watching the arena’s events.

He’s dressed as an ordinary spectator, blending in with the crowd. Approach the former king and start a conversation with him.

He'll ask a couple of questions to confirm your choice:

  • Q1: “Ah, but do not let our kingdom fall into ruins, now! How goes the governing, anyway? Is the throne to your liking?”
    • Respond with “No.”
  • Q2: “You no longer wish to be King/Queen of this fair land?”
    • Respond with “Yes.”

Once this conversation ends, a brief cutscene will play. The former king reclaims the throne and takes up his duties while you resume your life as a hero.

Now that your party is reunited, you can depart from Romaria and continue your quest to defeat the forces of evil.

If you ever feel like ruling again, you can return to the former king and reclaim the throne.

He’ll be more than willing, and the process of taking the crown will repeat.
