Ed Boon has just teased the next game from NetherRealm Studios and it looks like the studio is working on something big, with Boon claiming that he will “get in a lot of trouble” if he says too much.
Boon was speaking with Game Informer after being inducted into the Academy of Interactive Arts & Sciences' hall of fame (thanks to The Gamer). During the chat Boon discussed his history with Mortal Kombat and DC’s Injustice games before being asked about the studio’s next title. While Boon won’t mention what this new NetherRealm project might be, he does mention breaking a pattern, hinting that this might not be Mortal Kombat 12 or Injustice 3.

Ed Boon Teases Next NetherRealm Game, May Not Be Mortal Kombat Or Injustice
Here is Boon’s full quote from the interview:
"When we broke that pattern, there was a lot of speculation of what we would be doing next. I can tell you there was a reason for it, and when we announce our next game it'll make a lot more sense. At this point, I'll get in a lot of trouble if I say anything more."
There is a lot of speculation that this could be the rumored Marvel fighting game, which would break the pattern Boon mentioned since Mortal Kombat and Injustice are Warner Bros. IPs. Considering how Boon doesn’t hint at anything, it will be interesting to see if the Marvel fighting game ends up becoming true.
For the latest NetherRealm Studio games, fans can check out Mortal Kombat 11 now. The game is available on PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, Nintendo Switch, and PC.
