When they’re not trying to complete seemingly impossible runs through the game or raging at their own mimic tears, Elden Ring players can be a pretty lighthearted bunch.
After all, when you spend lots of time being mercilessly slaughtered by bosses you’re randomly trying to beat with a drawing pad or while only using one hand, a good sense of humour goes a long way.
Sometimes this manifests in the guise of an amusing message, a controversial hat tier list, or even a Thomas the Tank Engine-themed mod, but currently, it’s taking the form of an intense debate about the most iconic lines uttered by the game’s NPCs.
Which lines from Elden Ring are your favourites?
This discussion is the topic of a thread on the subreddit r/eldenring, which began with a post from user Xedront who shared a collage of their most cherished NPC quips and asked: “What is your favourite NPC dialogue in Elden Ring?
Their fellow tarnished were quick to offer a range of banterous or memorable small talk from the game, with a number picking out Margit as having some killer lines, such as Oloziz’s nomination of his monologue beginning with the words “Foul Tarnished” which Mediocre-Sale8473 added gives them: “shivers every time.”
On the other hand, user SherbetAlarming7677 said: “The first conversation with Roderika stuck with me for some reason.”, explaining that the brutality casually alluded to within it serves as a great introduction to the nature of the game’s world.
Meanwhile, user Mister_None went for the slightly less serious choice of Godrick the Grafted bellowing: “Forefathers, one and all... BEAR WITNESS!”, adding in a link to a fan-made animation on YouTube which thoroughly delivers on the line’s meme potential.
User Brain_lessV2’s choice was also an NPC nagging them to do something, with them selecting Kenneth Haight’s cry of “Is somebody interested in rescuing the Grrrreat Kenneth Haight?" and leading No_Error540 to muse: “Every time I hear that I just think he really wants to sell me the Fort Haight battle pass.”
Regardless of whether you’d buy a battle pass at Kenneth Haight’s urging, make sure to follow us for coverage of some great Elden Ring mods.
