The Switch 2 trailer was short but it gave fans plenty to be excited for, including a brand-new Mario Kart game. After Nintendo decided to keep updating Mario Kart 8 Deluxe for Switch, we’re finally getting a brand-new installation of this beloved franchise. It will be interesting to see what this game ends up being called.
When the game was first shown, many fans assumed that it was just Nintendo showing off Mario Kart 8 again. However, upon closer inspection, it’s clear that this is a brand-new game in the series. From a new Donkey Kong model to some potential new racers, there’s a lot going for this fresh installment.
Although fans are quick to call this game Mario Kart 9, there is a possibility that this is just MK 8 again, perhaps MK 8 Ultimate? There’s also the possibility that this is Mario Kart 10 or X, since some fans consider World Tour on mobile an official entry in the series. Nintendo was willing to port some tracks of World Tour to 8 Deluxe, so only time will tell if the mobile game is “official” or not.
It’s too soon to see how different this new installment of the game is going to be, aside from the visuals. Even then, fans couldn’t tell the difference until they directly compared the two. One could argue that it’s a testament to how good Mario Kart 8 has looked since its Wii U debut, but still.
Regardless of what this game ends up being called, seeing the Switch 2 launch with a new Mario Kart is always good. Casual gamers love the series, so this should propel the system’s sales to success if the game gets reviewed well.
For now, that’s what we’ve observed about the brand-new Mario Kart. Players can also read everything we know about the Switch 2. They can also read about Donkey Kong Country Returns HD.
