Fallout 4 can get a bit too easy if you’ve created the perfect character build, have a follower who soaks up all of the hits on your behalf or are able to lob an endless supply of mini-nukes at your enemies.
That said, there are a bunch of mods that can help to redress this balance in a number of different ways, including making things feel so scary your aim will be affected by shivers and replacing all of the game’s stimpaks with Nuka Cola.
However, sometimes you might be after a change that’s a little more simple than those examples, which is where a new mod might fit into your load order, especially if you’ve got a melee-centric build on the go.
Do you wish Fallout 4’s melee combat was a bit more punishing?
The mod in question is called ‘Blocked Attacks Deal Damage’ and is the work of modder RedxYeti, whose previous modding efforts have allowed you to sync Fallout 4 up to the time and date in the real world, in addition to stopping its NPCs from walking away mid-conversation.
This time, they’ve decided to make things a little bit tougher for those who choose to battle their enemies with a sledgehammer or in a bare-knuckle brawl, by making sure that blocking enemy blows doesn’t negate all of their damage, as you can see in the video below.
Don’t think that you’re the only one who’ll be taking a beating though, as the mod enacts exactly the same change for enemies, no matter whether they be raiders, ghouls or radroaches, meaning that your blocked attacks will also be more effective.
If you’re looking to minimise the effect that the mod will have on your combat effectiveness as you get deeper into the game and have to face tougher enemies, it’ll be worth investing perk points into increasing your strength stat and acquiring perks like Big Leagues, Rooted, and Basher, as all of these will be taken into account by the mod.
You could also invest in some modifications for your weapon if you’re not going the unarmed route, as beefing up your baseball bat or adding a bayonet to your rifle will either decrease the damage you take or make your bashes more potent.
Before you install, you’ll need to grab the Fallout 4 script extender in order to get the mod working as it should.
Also, once you’ve done that, if you want to tweak how much damage the mod’s dishing out, you can grab registrator2000, Neanka and shadowslasher410’s ‘Mod Configuration Menu’.
