Life in the Mojave can be weird sometimes, no matter whether you took the wild wasteland perk before you left Goodsprings.
This is often especially true if you’re playing with mods, as Fallout New Vegas’ modding community has produced some outstanding surrealist nightmares recently, forcing you to run from ‘The Crash Man’, go to war with a miniature Caesar's Legion and fight an incredibly powerful endgame boss version of YouTuber Jake Paul.
This time though, one of these mad men and women has truly outdone themselves, taking a beloved community meme character and having them take over the wasteland in horrifying fashion.
Forget about his dynamite, you’re going to need a Red Glare to contain this Easy Pete explosion
The mod that enables this terrifying transformation is called ‘Yup (NVSE)’ and is the work of modder TrueCourierSix, whose other work has overhauled the game’s perk system and brought Tetris to the Pip-Boy.
This time, however, they’ve used their modding powers for evil, turning every single NPC the game has to offer into Goodsprings’ resident explosives expert and replacing all of their dialogue lines with him saying the word “yup”.
That’s right, as soon as you wake up at the start of the game, Doc Mitchell will be Easy Pete and he’ll say yup. If you head to the Strip and confront Benny about your attempted murder, he’ll be Easy Pete and he’ll say yup. Or, if you somehow make it to the end of the game and come face to face with the fearsome Legate Lanius, he’ll be Easy Pete and he’ll say yup.
As you can see in the video below, the horror truly never ends, so, prepare to enter a hellish fever dream of elderly gentlemen saying yes and refusing to elaborate any further.
You might be wondering what would lead someone to create such a bizarre mod. Well the answer is that there’s some precedent for this kind of tomfoolery in the New Vegas modding scene, with both Demorome’s ‘Get Fucked (NVSE)’, which replaces every NPC with raider Driver Nephi and has them swear at you and RoyBatterian’s ‘GaryGaryGary’, which does something similar with Fallout 3’s infamous clones.
If you’re down for an Easy Pete version of these mods, you’ll need to grab the modding framework ‘xNVSE’, which it has to be assumed is required to stop the Petes from reaching out of your monitor and dragging you into the game to make you Easy Pete too.
So, grab your dynamite, practice adopting Pete’s low drawl, and make sure to follow us for coverage of the wacky worlds of Elden Ring and Skyrim modding.
