Final Fantasy 7 Remake Part 2 could be some way off, but the game's producer, Yoshinori Kitase, has been discussing some big plot developments in the second part as part of PlayStation's recent 'Play! Play! Play' stream.
We'll preface this with a sizeable spoiler warning for the first part of the remake, so be sure not to read on if you're yet to play through it.
Final Fantasy 7 Remake Producer Coy On Potential Plot Twist In Part 2
Still here? OK.
As reported by Inverse, Kitase was asked about Jessie's role in the first part of the Remake.
One of Cloud's potential love interests, Jessie's role in the new incarnation of Final Fantasy 7 is massively expanded upon, to the point where she has an entire story chapter focused on her family.
While we knew it was coming (based on the original game), it still hit hard when Jessie perished trying to prevent Shinra from dropping a chunk of Midgar on the slums below.
Based on her larger role, the stream's host asked if Jessie is, in fact, still alive, causing Kitase to nervously laugh before saying "Sorry I can't say anything about that".
Ok, so maybe we're clutching at straws here (Jessie's character is so lovable), but the lack of a definitive "no" suggests that Part 2 will continue Part 1's smart divergence from the original story.
As for the remake's second part, the game is in full production. Find out all we know here.
