Breakdown

  • Square Enix is already working on the third Final Fantasy VII Remake game
  • Creative director Tetsuya Nomura said he can't wait to finish this trilogy
  • Everyone's excited to see the third game and how it builds from the excellent Rebirth

After the success of Final Fantasy VII Remake and Rebirth, it’s not surprising to know that Square Enix is already hard at work on the third installment. Considering the leap between Remake and Rebirth, we definitely want to see how Square Enix tops themselves with the third installment.

During a special episode in the Square Enix music channel on Youtube, creative director Tetsuya Nomura and scenario writer Kazushige Nojima talked about work for the third game. Hilariously, Nomura said that he can’t wait for the third game to finish so they can wrap up all of these Final Fantasy VII projects.

Nomura was then able to get Nobuo Uematsu to agree to make the opening theme for Final Fantasy VII Remake 3, before confirming that they were hard at work already. While Nomura didn’t say how far along the third game is, he did say that the developers are already “off to the races.”

Considering the four year gap between Remake and Rebirth, many are assuming that the third game will be coming out in 2028. If they can make another quality entry that expands on Rebirth in the same amount of time, that would be a true testament to the development team. The making of Rebirth was far from easy, but most of the devs said that it was worth it for everything they were able to do.

Final Fantasy VII Rebirth ended up being one of this year’s best games and it only came out at the end of February. Critics and fans alike enjoyed some of the story’s neat twists, while also enjoying the massive world and improvements to combat. We also enjoyed the game, check out our review here, and we can’t wait to see what they do with the third installment of the Final Fantasy VII Remake trilogy.

PS5 owners can pick up Final Fantasy VII Rebirth right now, with many fans hoping for a PC release in the future. In the meantime, Final Fantasy VII Remake is readily available on PS4, PS5, and PC.
