Queen’s Blood is quickly becoming the most popular mini-game in Final Fantasy VII Rebirth, thanks to the addictive nature of trading cards. It seems that the devs at Square Enix enjoyed creating this mini-game, as they went out of their way to make a Queen’s Blood board through 3D printing.
Speaking with Kotaku, the devs talked about how difficult it was to conceptualize this mini-game at first, before finding appropriate inspiration. The card game took cues from Marvel Snap and Splatoon, which makes sense since Queen’s Blood is all about claiming the board for higher points.
Once development on Queen’s Blood was beginning to end, the Final Fantasy VII Rebirth devs decided to make their board for the mini-game. Using a 3D printer, the devs recreated the in-game board and it can now be used for playing the card game.
“There was a lot of love for Queen’s Blood among the development staff as well, and toward the end of development when the workload lightened for some members, they used a 3D printer to create an actual real-life board,” Director Naoki Hamaguchi discussed.
Considering all of the love and effort put into this card game, a part of us hopes that Square Enix decides to sell actual cards and boards of Queen’s Blood. This mini-game is already pretty addicting in Rebirth, even dominating one of the chapters, so we’re sure fans will want to try it out in real life. Plus, who wouldn’t want cards of their favorite Final Fantasy VII characters and monsters?
Final Fantasy VII Rebirth has proven to be quite a success, with mini-games like Queen’s Blood and the semi-open world helping this sequel stand out from its predecessor. Not every aspect of the game is great, people seem to hate the returning Fort Condor mini-game, but it seems fans are falling in love with this series all over again.
