The upcoming major expansion for Final Fantasy XIV, Dawntrail, will be released on July 2, Square Enix confirmed, with early access starting on June 28.
First announced all the way back in July 2023, Dawntrail will end a soon-to-be three-year period with no major expansions for the highly successful MMO, with the last one released being Endwalker in 2021.
The news was dropped during the Final Fantasy XIV PAX East panel, revealing both the release date, an incredible collector's edition, and more features set to launch with Dawntrail.
The Collector's Edition of the game will be available for $214.99, and it comes with a code for Windows or Mac. The package includes a unique art box, a Viper figure, an adventurer's cloth map, an Unending Journey, and an adventurer's pen case. Moreover, players can enjoy in-game exclusive rewards that are themed around Final Fantasy IX.
If you're a console player, the Collector's Box that comes without the Dawntrail digital code but all the physical goodies will also be available for $155, letting players purchase their version of Dawntrail (PS5 or Xbox Series S and X) that they want.
Pre-orders for the expansion will start on March 26. If you decide to go ahead and pre-order the expansion you'll get two exclusive rewards: Wind-up Zidane Minion and Azeyma's earrings, these will provide varying attributes based on the wearer's class and level. They also offer a 30% EXP boost when worn, great for levelling jobs to level 90.
Dawntrail will feature massive changes to Final Fantasy XIV, including a graphical overhaul, two new DPS jobs, the Viper and Pictomancer, a new playable race, the female Hrothgar, a level cap increase to 100, new dungeons, and much more content.
Final Fantasy fans are already having a great 2024 with the massive success of FF7 Rebirth and the upcoming DLC for Final Fantasy 16, The Rising Tide is also on the horizon, and it looks like Dawntrail will add even more excitement.
If you're keen on trying FFXIV, the game currently offers a free trial up to level 70 with entire access to A Realm Reborn, Heavensward, and Stormblood expansions. Sadly, if you intent on playing on Xbox, you might have a subpar experience due to some bizarre economy decisions.
