We're only a few months out from the release of Fire Emblem Warriors: Three Hopes, but there's already another instalment on the horizon. At the September 2022 Nintendo Direct event, the Fire Emblem Engage release date was announced, setting the scene for the newest game in the long-running RPG and tactical franchise.

In this hub, we'll break down everything you need to know about Fire Emblem Engage. That includes its release date as confirmed by Nintendo, as well as the latest news we have on the game, and how the gameplay and story are shaping up.

Elsewhere, feel free to read up on other upcoming games. We've got a look at the Modern Warfare 2 release date, which is fast approaching, and the Modern Warfare 2 maps you'll be playing on. That's on top of the confirmed launch date for the FIFA 23 web app, alongside some player FIFA 23 ratings as well.

When is the Fire Emblem Engage release date?

Fire Emblem Engage is slated to release on January 20, 2023. That leaves only a few short months between its reveal in September 2022 and its eventual release. Therefore, Fire Emblem fans will no doubt have their hype going through the roof with this news.

Even better, the chances are it won't budge from its current Q1 2023 release date. Nintendo tends to stick firmly to its release dates, aside from new notable examples like The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom.

Given the release date is already fairly close, it seems unlikely that Nintendo will push it back - barring some exceptional and unforeseen circumstances.

Fire Emblem Engage gameplay

As with most other entries in the series, Fire Emblem Engage is a tactical RPG. The focus is once more on turn-based combat, as you command your troops through tight maps to tackle groups of enemies dotted throughout.

This takes place in a town-down perspective, zooming in on each character once it's their time to attack. In your time you'll fight against regular grunts, horse-riding soldiers, and of course a mountain of bosses.

On top of that, you'll roam freely around hub worlds with your typical third-person camera. There's less combat here, but rather a chance to perform more menial tasks, helping out NPCs and soaking up the atmosphere of this battle-ravaged world.

But the key gameplay mechanic here is the ability to use your magic ring to summon Fire Emblem characters from previous games in the series. The reveal trailer focuses on Smash Bros. favourite Marth, though Sigurd is also confirmed to appear. We'll have to wait and see which other familiar faces crop up!

Fire Emblem Engage story

The game's reveal trailer opens up with some shots of an ancient tapestry, showing Emblems from across generations - and of course, across the franchise's history.

Fire Emblem Engage takes place in the region of Elyos, with you playing as an as-yet-unnamed protagonist. Struck down with amnesia, he has been in a slumber for thousands of years, ever since a war between the people of Elyos and a beast called the Fire Dragon.

Quite typically, it seems like the Fire Dragon has made a return, so it's up to our purple-haired protagonist to harness the power of ancient Emblems to defeat it once more. That's where we'll get to reunite with iconic franchise faces like Marth and Sigurd!

Is Fire Emblem Engage connected to Fire Emblem Heroes?

Though the art style and focus on crossovers would make Fire Emblem Engage look like a tie-in with Fire Emblem Heroes and ever Tokyo Mirage Sessions #FE, there's nothing from the current trailer that would draws a fine line connecting the lot just yet.
