Feeling like something's missing in Ghostrunner 2? The long-awaited sequel has an all-new progression system, and everything from projectile deflection to a powerful laser can be unlocked. In this guide, we'll go over how to unlock upgrades in Ghostrunner 2.

These upgrades mark a real step up from the manoeuvres that were possible in the first Ghostrunner game. You'll find yourself wondering how you ever lived without them, and while the system is well-balanced, it really lets you become a god of death by the end of the game - and for the record, that's brilliant.

We've got plenty more Ghostrunner 2 guides where that came from, too. We can help you parry, take pictures of your beautiful neon massacres with photo mode, and beat the first boss in Ghostrunner 2, Ahriman.

How to upgrade in Ghostrunner 2

Upgrades in Ghostrunner 2 can be applied at any time, but can only be unlocked from a certain location. Visit the headquarters, and from your starting point, enter a room on the left and interact with the computer that switches on when you get close. This is the upgrading interface, and will let you trade 'data' for upgrades.

Data is earned by killing enemies, and you'll be doing plenty of that throughout the game. Each upgrade takes a certain amount of data and will consume a different amount of memory; new upgrades will also become available as you make progress in the story, so be sure to return to this room often.

To change your upgrades, use the touchpad or your platform's equivalent to open the motherboard menu. Here, upgrades can be moved in and out of slots as needed.

Interact with the machine and you'll see several upgrade options. Note the data at the top.

How to get more upgrade slots in Ghostrunner 2

You've likely noticed the sheer number of unusable upgrade slots. As you get further into Ghostrunner 2's story and explore thoroughly, you'll find purple collectibles, which are called memory shards.

Each memory shard increases your overall memory by one point, and collecting a gradually increasing number (starting at four and rising to six, then eight, etc.) increases your motherboard level. An upgraded motherboard unlocks additional upgrade slots and even ultimate abilities, so they're definitely worth hunting down.

That's everything you need to know about becoming the ultimate killing machine by upgrading in Ghostrunner 2! While you're here, check out our guide on all Ghostrunner 2 trophies and achievements, so you can work towards 100% completion.
