Just days after rumours began circulating about the release date of Rockstar's GTA 6, the masterminds behind the global franchise have tweeted about an upcoming promotion for GTA Online. The image is causing quite a buzz, as it could easily be interpreted as the first teaser for the next chapter in the series.

While nothing is official as per the game's developers, this could be the first, albeit subtle, hint about the highly-anticipated title. If that is the case, then we may not have to wait much longer before something concrete falls into our laps.

Two tweets have GTA fans in a frenzy

In a tweet on September 25, video game insider Chris Marxx dropped a tweet that sent social media off the rails, claiming that he could confirm the official announcement date for GTA 6 would be October 26, 2023. While no sources are to be found on this announcement and no official statements have been made from Rockstar, it's caused quite a buzz among the gaming community. That is until Rockstar themselves posted a rather convenient promotion.

Just four days later, on September 29, Rockstar broke the news that they are currently running a promotion for the Moon Festival and players could grab a free Red Happy Moon Tee if they play their online spin-off. It is the details of the image, however, that are causing all of the fuss.

The image depicts a male and female character standing in front of the iconic Vinewood sign during the night. What makes this interesting is that the lighting on the left of the screen conveniently shows a "VI". These two details are particularly telling, as the next GTA game, its 6th (VI) instalment, is said to include two main characters, a man and a woman.

At this point in time, we can only speculate if these two tweets are purely coincidental or not. In fact, there are some who are claiming that the announcement date rumour is a hoax, which is just as viable given there don't seem to be any sources.

Is this the subtle beginning of Rockstar's marketing campaign or just a bunch of hearsay? Only time will time, but as more news drops, we'll let you know.
