While many GTA players are just trying to enjoy their remaining time in Los Santos by spending all of their hard-earned cash or becoming a taxi driver, some are already looking forward to GTA 6.
After all, aren’t you curious what the next game’s map will look like, whether it’ll include an interesting parody of Netflix or what’ll be the ideal strategy for your first playthrough?
While all of this likely won’t be known until the game finally arrives, some players are still thinking about what kind of themes they’d like its missions to have, with their current discussion centring around the fact they’re sick of saving the world.
Are you hoping GTA 6 might involve less work for the government than GTA Online does?
This conversation forms the subject of a recent thread on the GTA 6 subreddit, which began with a post from user Da_Big_Chungus, who kicked things off by declaring: “Please… no more missions about saving the government, the people, or the world in (GTA) VI. I’m tired of this trope. We’re criminals, not heroes.”
Many of their fellow baddies were quick to agree, with user GunnerII saying: “100%. I want to rob banks and steal (things), not do contracts for the FIB.” and hushpolocaps69 adding: “Yeah I hope to God GTA VI quits the government (stuff) altogether unless it’s in the sense of them chasing our protagonists.”
Other users suggested that a repeat of GTA 5’s agency-heavy main story might not be too likely, with cen0b saying: “Part of the reason you had to work with the government so much is because Michael was kinda roped into it.” and wadeecraven adding: “Yeah, most of the FIB missions in V seemed dodgy from the beginning and they were obviously using you. Hopefully with the new pair of protagonists these scenarios (won’t) happen.”
On the other hand, user Studebaker-Hoch argued: “I think they could make this angle work again in VI if you’re committing assassinations, running drugs, and doing other dirty jobs for intel agencies but not feeling like you’re in on the bigger picture, (instead) only doing it out of necessity to avoid prison and to further your own interests.”
User mahirbr also invoked the immersion aspect of government interactions to make a similar argument, while also comparing the GTA situation to Rockstar’s other open-world crime franchise, declaring: “(I) hope we work for (the) government again in VI so we see why we're not getting arrested or get killed by any police forces (at) the end of the story like (we do in the) Red Dead Redemption Series. I don't want to face the fact we're not responsible for anything because it's just a game.”
