Where Will GTA 6 Be Located?
Vice City And Liberty City
A leak emerged a while ago from the GTAForums, where once again the notion of working across Vice City and Liberty City came up; focusing heavily on drug smuggling and Cartels across multiple time periods.
According to another leak, Vice City won't be the only Florida location we'll be heading to.
The leaker also stated that the map in the next GTA "is set to be the size of GTA V & RDR2 combined."
The game will supposedly take players on a short trip to another country, also at some point in the campaign, players will head to somewhere in Central America.
The locations that the game is rumoured to be set in are:
- Liberty City (Limited Area)
- Vice City (Main City)
- Rio de Neve, South America (Rio de Janeiro, Main City)
- The Republic of Castellano, South America (Mix of Bolivia and Colombia, Main City)
- Minor Cities
- People's Republic of del Castro, Central America (Fictional Central American island based on Panama and Cuba, Island)
- Mexico (Mexico, Limited Area)
- Prologue: 1978
- Main Story: 1980s
- Epilogue: Present Day
Could this be the new GTA 6 map?
Back To The 1980s?
GTA Online is also mentioned where players can join other story modes as a member of their crew and is set in the 1980s
Recent action on Grand Theft Auto Online has stirred a hornet's nest of speculation
South America
As caught on Reddit, the latest teaser for GTA Online's next update has prominently highlighted South America.
As it's the only such region to get the treatment, expectations are that we may very well be headed to the criminal underbelly of Columbia for the next instalment!
This sounds plausible as around Christmas time Rockstar employees, as well as YouTubers, were gifted badges that could indicate the location of the next GTA game - including Jamaica and Colombia.
Off the back of the recent "early development" rumours, GTA 6 is potentially going to feature a medium-sized map and expanded over time.
London
There are rumours that it could be set in London or returning to a familiar location in the USA.
The last time a GTA title was based outside of the United States was all the way back in 1999, when it was actually set in London!
Since we, of course, have visited locations such as Vice City, Liberty City and Los Santos which are all based upon the three biggest cities in the States; Miami, New York, and Los Angeles.
So, is it time for Rockstar Games to go back overseas? London has been the home of numerous open-world games, Assassin's Creed Syndicate and Watch Dogs Legion is captivating the London scenery.
It appears to be a hot location to base a game in as of late, and with how well Rockstar can captivate a city this would be amazing to see!
Although on the surface it seems to be a good idea, Dan Houser, the ex-head writer at Rockstar Games said this to The Guardian:
"GTA London was cool for the time,” he said, referring to the original Grand Theft Auto game. He continued, “But games were more limited then. These days I think we would love to set a game in the UK, set in London, whatever, but I don't know if it would be a GTA game.”
Unfortunately, it does not look like we will be seeing a GTA game in London anytime soon; but you never know there may be a chance!

What Will Happen In The Story?
As a result, the player’s main opposition throughout the game will be Rockstar’s equivalent of the DEA, the “DOA”.
The post suggests that a great deal of the gameplay will be about managing and growing your criminal empire. The post gives more detail on what this management will pertain to:
“You can meet new contacts however the deals that usually take place in cheap motels carry the risk of being a set-up by other players, or criminals for stepped on cocaine, lower grade coke, no cash, etc.”
The user also describes changes to character customisation being much more detailed as you can choose your ethnicity, a selection of voices by lowering or raising the pitch, your body type, they've included more realistic faces, and new clothing.
Several parts of the story are also described throughout the post to include “a storyline arc involves an Undercover FIB agent in your crew.” Theygo on to say “The Pacific Cartel has an internal dispute and a war takes place on the streets of Vice City.”
“A chapter revolves around you being actually sent to Prison and sentenced. The Prison chapter is about you surviving, making new contacts and discovering vital information and dealing with enemies while attempting to keep your business going, there are various Prison gangs with the Aryans/KKK being secondary antagonists in the story.”
“Here's the best part, when you are released it is the 1980s and the Pacific Cartel have split into three Cartels - Madrazo, Sr”
“This leads the Mexican Cartel, "Matriarch" leads the South American Cartel and "Dictator's Son" runs the Central American Gunrunning Cartel. You can work for Madrazo Sr. (Good Choice), Matriarch (Neutral Choice) or Dictator's Son (Bad Choice). Madrazo moves back to Mexico and leaves you in charge of the Vice Cartel, "Matriarch" leaves you with much of a higher grade quality of cocaine and a different type of Cartel, "Dictator's Son" leaves you without anything but all-out war.”
“You also have a strong rival, who is described as an Anton Chigurh type of freelance Hitman named 'The Mexican'. You have multiple, scripted very intense encounters with him and acts and moves like the Nemesis from RE3. Hard to kill. As your organization is being taken down, you two end up becoming allies and team up.”

Location And Time Periods
The locations and time settings are then specifically listed:
Main Cities
- Liberty City (Limited Area)
- Vice City (Main City)
- Rio de Neve, South America (Rio de Janeiro, Main City)
- Republic of Castellano, South America (Mix of Bolivia and Colombia, Main City)
- Minor Cities
- People's Republic of del Castro, Central America (Fictional Central American island based on Panama and Cuba, Island)
- Mexico (Mexico, Limited Area)
- Prologue: 1978
- Main Story: 1980s
- Epilogue: Present Day
Information is then given on the changes to GTA Online with apparently there being the choice between joining other player’s story mode or the full Online mode, which has a story independent of the single player:
“GTA Online will be set in the 1980s and allow players to join another person's main story campaign as a member of the Protagonist's crew - up to four players can join in on a Story while the Online mode has it's own Story. You can choose different classes: the Undercover, Cartel member or a member of one of the Five Families with only Liberty, Vice Playable. You will be able to run your own crews and work for the Story mode's Bosses to earn money. Each class has their own perks, being Undercover allows you to report back to your Staff Sergeant in either Vice or Liberty, working for the Cartel allows you to help smuggle drugs from Vice to Liberty and being apart of one of the Five Families can allow you to become a "Made Man."
”The user also emphasises GTA 6 as being the most immersive chapter in the series with there being significant consequences for the player’s actions such as prison time outside of the playable segment.
“The main focus of GTA 6 is immersion and feeling like any and everybody can be approached, the ability to feel like you are apart of an epic crime drama while blending cut scenes, gameplay and events with a dynamic system that feels like a living world with real people with set populations.
You kill someone like a civilian? Expect the Vice Dade to investigate it. This can come back to bite you later as days or weeks pass, you could be arrested. Imprisonment isn't just a quick cutscene, it's an actual punishment. You lose time, value, the respect of your peers and money.”
This isn't the first time we've heard rumours about a return to Vice City or that we may visit multiple locations.
