Rockstar is keen on releasing Grand Theft Auto 6 in 2025. Ahead of its 2024 Q3 financial report release, Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick spoke with several outlets, confirming the company expects GTA 6 to hit shelves and digital storefronts this year.
Zelnick said to IGN that "there's always a risk of slippage," adding that Take-Two "feels really good about" a Fall 2025 release window for GTA 6. Over at Variety, the CEO stated: "We’ve announced a pretty narrow window. So I think our view is that right now, that’s fine. And then when it’s appropriate, of course, Rockstar is going to have more to say.”
It's no secret that Rockstar Games has issues with delays. Many expect that a project as titanic as the follow-up to the money-making behemoth that is Grand Theft Auto V is hit with at least one, especially if we take into consideration previous releases.
GTA V was delayed from early 2013 to its eventual September release that same year. Even the PC version suffered from delays, pushed from November 2014 to April of the following year.
This time, though, it looks like Rockstar is very adamant that the game will launch with absolutely zero delays. Part of their confidence could be the lengthy development period.
Preliminary work on the game began in 2014 with all hands on deck starting in 2018 following the release of Red Dead Redemption 2, according to Bloomberg.
The first trailer for GTA 6 dropped back in December 2023. Since then, it's been basically radio silent from Rockstar Games. If the developers hope to hit the Fall 2025 release window, fans can certainly expect information to drop sooner rather than later.
In any case, as Zelnick himself pointed out, unexpected slipups can occur, so until Rockstar Games comes out and sets a proper date anything can happen.
As it stands, Grand Theft Auto 6 is releasing at some point in late 2025 for Xbox Series and PlayStation 5. No news on a PC port has been shared.
