While some are already focused on what might happen once GTA 6 gets a concrete release date, many GTA Online players are just trying to make the most of their remaining time in Los Santos.

A fair few of these hardened criminals had hoped that the San Andreas Mercenaries update would help reinvigorate their passion for the game, but, unfortunately, many were left frustrated by the DLC’s removal of a massive array of vehicles from in-game websites.

Thankfully, it seems as though GTA Online's latest weekly update is proving a lot more popular, thanks to the return of a money-making activity that was a staple all the way back in 2013.

Do you miss the early days of GTA Online?

The feature that’s got players harking back to the days when the skies of Los Santos were free of Oppressors is armoured truck robberies, with a bunch of fresh cash-laden transports having been dispatched onto the streets of San Andreas.

Finding one of these trucks in freemode and blowing or shooting open its rear doors will reward you with double the standard cash and reputation this week, which, according to one player on Reddit, translates to around $50k per robbery.

Since learning about the return of these mini-heists, a number of veteran criminals have been reminiscing about doing them back in the day, such as user SattvaMicione, who posted an old clip of them committing a truck robbery to the GTA Online subreddit.

“My first million dollars (in-game was) made like this, a lifetime ago,” they said of the video, prompting another player to quickly reveal that the trucks also contributed to their early fortunes, alongside missions like Coveted and Rooftop Rumble.

That said, the thread that followed SattvaMicione’s post also saw a number of players suggest that the returning feature hasn’t managed to get rid of the bad taste the Mercenaries update left in their mouths, with user rental_car_fast saying: “Sorry for taking all the cars away, but you can have the armoured trucks back as a consolation prize.”
