The mad world of GTA Online has been home to a lot of wacky occurrences as it’s been updated over the years, from flying submarines to monkey hit and runs.
However, when it comes to these interesting incidents, the most eye-catching are often the work of powerful modders and hackers on PC, who can rearrange the game in ways that’ll leave you questioning the nature of reality itself.
Unfortunately, it seems that some recent hijinks by GTA Online’s nefarious dark gods have left one player bewildered, as the session they were in was transformed into an upside-down hellscape.
An image of the rapture or a screenshot from GTA Online? You decide!
The now-deleted thread about this crazy event in the GTA Online subreddit began with a post from the poor player in question, user Gr33nym8, who shared some images of the terrifying realm the modders in their session had turned Los Santos into, angrily asking in all caps: “WHAT KIND OF GAME AM I EVEN PLAYING?”
Their fellow GTA players were generally less perturbed by the occurrence, with several jokingly comparing it to scenes in films like Inception and Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness.
On the other hand, a few decided to sarcastically blame Rockstar for the freaky lobby, with user Iateyourpaintings saying: “this is what Rockstar's attempt at cross-platform play would look like” and OneCloud3771 calling it: “the Expanded and Enhanced edition.”
Meanwhile, user BentOatmeal seemed as though they welcomed the arrival of the GTApocalypse, saying: “that looks so cool bro”, to which SooperFunk replied: “don't encourage the people who do that....... but yeah.”
Some users were more curious than hyped, with Deutsch__Dingler asking: “do you clip through the top or is it all solid?”, prompting hexarobi to explain: “yes, it doesn’t clip. It’s just low-resolution city models turned upside down in the sky. So as you get close they still look low res and funky, but from a distance it looks cool.”
It seems these responses were enough to help Gr33nym8 see the funny side of their plight, with them responding to one comment: “it's that map expansion we've been asking for (for) years, and rockstar finally delivered.”
