Just a few days after the hacker who managed to get ahold of confidential information about Grand Theft Auto 6 was finally sentenced, Rockstar now has to deal with yet another one, as the GTA V source code has leaked online.
The GTA V source code isn't part of a new wave of cybercrime against Rockstar Games, in fact, the contents were stolen during 2022's attack on the company. The code up until this point was being shared privately via private Discord servers and other messaging apps.
The leak includes the entirety of the game's code as well as a look at other noteworthy stuff about GTA V, like a look at what the first San Andras map would look like. It even has a small Python script file for Grand Theft Auto 6.
Unfortunately, it has been reported that the leaked documents have exposed sensitive information regarding Rockstar employees, including the work emails of over a thousand workers.
It's worth noting that this past November a few documents from the big Rockstar database breach surfaced online, confirming that the developers were working on GTA V story DLC content, which could've been scrapped completely or possibly integrated into GTA Online due to the mode's overwhelming success.
This new leak, however, sheds more light on the potential downloadable content we could've gotten for the game. Files include a total of eight potential cancelled pieces of DLC with standouts including Agent Trevor and Liberty City, with this last one suggesting players would have taken a trip up north, returning to GTA IV's version of said location.
As the holiday season continues, it remains to be seen how Rockstar Games will react to the recent leaks. Unfortunately, developers are becoming increasingly accustomed to dealing with these types of incidents, as evidenced by the recent targeting of Insomniac Games, with several information about upcoming projects shared online, including the Wolverine title and Spider-Man 3.
