The excitement surrounding the launch of Modern Warfare 2 is beginning to build. As Infinity Ward continues sharing more information ranging from campaign intel to what multiplayer has in store, players are already looking forward to its release.
2019's Modern Warfare included numerous innovations. One of which was Gunfight, a round-based two-versus-two mode where players rely on gunskill to gain the upper hand.
After disappearing from playlists during the Vanguard cycle, Infinity Ward says Gunfight will make a return to Call of Duty once Modern Warfare 2 has launched.
Gunfight Will Return in Modern Warfare 2
Following a media event at Infinity Ward's studio in Los Angeles, a GameSpot report reveals the fan-favourite game mode is returning "at some point," suggesting it won't feature when Modern Warfare 2 launches on October 28.
Instead of Gunfight appearing at launch, a new mode known as Knockout will fill its place before its return. The single-life mode sees two teams of six competing to control a bag of cash. The team that holds the bag at the end of the round wins.
Gunfight was moved aside in Vanguard in favour of Champion Hill, a similar mode featuring a buy station that allows players to purchase various items and upgrade their weapons with additional attachments.
Modern Warfare 2 Gunfight Release Date
With Infinity Ward stating Gunfight won't appear at launch, there's every chance the mode will appear as part of a seasonal update.
Like Vanguard, players can expect the appearance of new Operators and guns alongside a fresh Battle Pass with 100 tiers of new content to earn.
As more information on Modern Warfare 2 emerges, Infinity Ward may follow a similar pattern to 2019's Modern Warfare and use Gunfight as a playable alpha or within the beta. We will have to wait and see.
