For as long as Halo has been gracing the Xbox, Master Chief has been the mean, green face of the franchise. He's usually always been tied to the games' singleplayer modes, but a recent announcement shows that might be about to change.
In the reveal trailer for Halo Infinite Season 5: Reckoning, developer 343 revealed many of the changes players can expect. Among the glimpses of new maps and cosmetics, one sneaky announcement has caught players' eyes and set social media ablaze.
Just over a minute into the teaser, text reads 'New hero rank reward: Infinite mark VI armor kit'. Immediately after, the mean, green face — well, visor — graces the screen. It's official - the Chief, or at least his armour, is coming to Halo Infinite's multiplayer.
You won't find him in the item shop, either. The Chief can reportedly only be unlocked by reaching max hero rank, which can take upwards of 2000 games. For most, the grind will definitely be worth it - the teabagging just feels different when the knees doing it are that special shade of green.
By finally making Master Chief playable, the door is open for other fan-favourite characters and armour from the Halo series to debut in the game. Eagle-eyed trailer viewers have also pointed out what looks to be Halo: Combat Evolved armor at the end of the trailer.
If this is just the beginning, we might even see crossovers in Halo Infinite's future. I, for one, would love to see the Doomslayer rip and tear through the battlefield.
