The hype for Helldivers 2 is something we've rarely seen, as the extraction PvE third-person shooter continues breaking industry trends as sales continue to grow three weeks after release.
Previously, it was reported that the Arrowhead Studios title sold better in its second week than during its launch period. Now, three weeks into the game, Helldivers 2 continues to ship more copies than before, according to industry analyst Mat Piscatella.
Piscatella has described this success as "an honest-to-goodness inverse decay curve so far." Sadly, we don't have a concrete number of copies sold, as Sony has yet to divulge how big the success of Helldivers 2 is.
The last we heard was from Arrowhead Studios CEO Johan Pilestedt, who responded to fan speculation about Helldivers 2 shipping roughly 3 million copies back on February 25. It's far from a proper announcement but it's still better than being completely in the dark.
With the game's population increasing at a rapid pace, Arrowhead Studios will be hard at work trying to fix all the server issues that have plagued Helldivers 2 these past few weeks.
Although Helldivers 2 was published by Sony Interactive Entertainment, it was also launched on PC through Steam. The game saw a remarkable amount of success on the platform, and it even became the most-played PlayStation game on PC.
As per SteamCharts, the game witnessed a peak of 458,709 concurrent players. The hype is definitely not stopping as the game's concurrent peak for March 3 was 431,621 players.
It seems like a matter of time before either Sony or Arrowhead Studios update fans on the current Helldivers 2 sales numbers as it's the perfect way to showcase their success and build interest for those on the fence about jumping into a live-service game.
