While we’ve all been enjoying listening to Hideo Kojima’s new Spotify podcast, which the Metal Gear and Death Stranding director announced midway through Opening Night Live at Gamescom, the legendary developer seemingly isn’t done with puzzling Geoff Keighley collaborations for this year.
Currently, both figures are involved in the fuss around a mysterious teaser, which has gamers speculating as to whether Kojima’s studio, Kojima Productions, could be beginning the process of hyping up a new game.
Said teaser takes the form of an image of a woman whose face is obscured and is clearly designed to invite people to take a guess at her identity.
What do you think Kojima Productions could be hinting at?
This image first appeared on Kojima Productions’ website, and was then shared on Twitter by Keighley, who captioned it with a simple question mark.
Naturally, the replies to Keighley’s post quickly became a hive of speculation, with theories regarding the woman’s identity ranging from @vandastica’s idea that she could be a grown-up version of Death Stranding’s BB-28 to @HeyJacobHarris’ suggestion that it’s American actress Margaret Qualley, who’s rumoured to be starring in Overdose, an upcoming horror title from the studio which was the subject of leaks earlier this year.
Reaction to the tease in the subreddit r/GamingLeaksAndRumours was along similar lines, with user Elena_xoxo presenting an alternative guess at the woman’s identity via a link to a Twitter post comparing the picture to one of another American actress, Elle Fanning.
While any or none of these theories could be accurate, it seems fans won’t be finding out at the Tokyo Game Show, with Kojima productions having already tweeted: “No game titles will be displayed at TGS.”
Despite setting off all of this speculation, Kojima himself doesn’t seem to be too phased about everyone wondering what his studio has in store, having enjoyed a pleasant meeting with Nope director Jordan Peele and, of course, Keighley, just a couple of hours before everything kicked off.
Regardless of what you think Kojima Productions’ teaser could mean, make sure to follow us for updates whenever the game being promoted is finally revealed.
