Duelist has always been the sought-after class for Marvel Rivals players because dealing damage and taking out players has always been the most fun part of the game.
Interestingly, a player has managed to rise the ranks by dealing absolutely zero damage, and they’ve only done so by being very efficient at healing their allies.
Getting Grandmaster with Zero Dealt Damage
As posted by u/Habooskie (player handle NoDmgRocket) on Reddit, they’ve managed to hit Grandmaster in Marvel Rivals despite dealing absolutely zero damage. They’ve played over 18 hours as Rocket Racoon in the game and have managed to do almost 3 million healing and 300,000 damage blocked. Here’s their stats:
You can also see they’ve done zero damage and no KOs or assists. Some would think they would even damage some players accidentally, but it looks like NoDmgRocket meant it when they chose their handle.
So far, out of 108 matches played as Rocket, they’ve managed to win 71, which is still a good rate. Still, many players have criticized NoDmgRocket for costing their team the game because they refuse to damage anyone. On the other hand, others are congratulating NoDmgRocket for the impressive feat.
Pacifist Run
While the game has its own set of goals and trophies for players to achieve, gamers have always found ways to make things more interesting by giving themselves self-imposed challenges like speed runs and ‘no weapons’ runs.
Refusing to hurt any characters in a game is called a Pacifist Run, and several players have tried in multiple games to get to the end without harming or killing anything in their way. Players usually take note of missions where they can pass it completely through stealth or other means. This has been done for games like The Last of Us, but some games put players in missions that are themed around a pacifist run, like Cyberpunk 2077.
Interestingly enough, NoDmgRocket admits they originally wanted the name ‘PacifistRocket,’ but it was already taken.
Setting Goalposts
With Marvel Rivals just released, there are multiple kinds of challenges that players can give themselves depending on specific characters. Sure, this player had a run where they didn’t do damage to enemy players. In Overwatch, a player managed to do the opposite and only do damage with a healer character (this was known in the community as an ‘Attack Mercy’).
With Rivals, some players may challenge themselves to progress while playing Bruce Banner without transforming into the Hulk once. Some have even teased that there are Spider-Man players who don’t know they’re doing pacifist runs because they can’t seem to inflict any damage.
That being said, take these challenges at the risk of your team because it’s likely some people not on board will be pissed some players aren’t doing everything they can to win the game.
Marvel Rivals is now available for Xbox Series X|S, PS5, and PC.
