But, as is the case with practically all technology, cleaning can be a little dicey - especially as some components are susceptible to damage if not handled with care.
Keeping your mouse clean is great to keep it working at its best, and the sensor itself is one of the most important areas to make sure you cover.
Here's how you can do it, plus a few products we'd recommend using to go about it.
How to clean a mouse sensor
Step 1: What you'll want to do is buy yourself some Q-tips and some cleaning alcohol. You'll want this to be at least 70%.
If it is higher than 70% you can dilute it with some water.
Using products with ammonia is said to potentially harm your mouse, so if you're using an alternative cleaning product, check the label first.
Step 2: Wet the Q-tip only slightly so it's 'damp' but not completely soaked.
Step 3: Gently clean the sensor, avoiding applying too much pressure. Too much pressure could result in damage, so be careful!
Step 4: The sensor should be clean, but not 100% dry. Leave the mouse facing sensor up for around 2 minutes.
If you've found that you've used too much liquid, you can use a microfiber cloth to assist in the drying.
Step 5: Once dry, your mouse sensor should be clean and ready to go.
