Players face a series of challenging bosses, each testing their skills and strategies in Black Myth: Wukong. The Black Wind King can prove to be one of the most difficult bosses in Chapter 1. This Yaoguai King, residing in the Black Wind Cave, is a barrier players must break through to progress.

With the proper preparation and strategy, he can be defeated if you’re wondering how, this guide is here to help by providing a step-by-step approach to conquering the Black Wind King.

Gear Required For the Black Wind King Boss Fight

You’ll find the Black Wind King in the Black Wind Cave, near the Cave Interior Keeper's Shrine. This Shrine is essential as it serves as a respawn point if defeated.

Preparation is key here. Here's what you need to do before marching off to battle:

Before facing the Black Wind King, consider defeating the optional boss, Elder Jinchi. Doing so will give you the Fireproof Mantle that regenerates Focus and Guanyin's Prayer Beads, adding 10% to your defense. These items will provide an advantage in the upcoming fight.

Furthermore, you will also obtain the crafting recipe for the Bronze Armor set after you kill Elder Jinchi. There are two reasons why this is important:

  • Two pieces: Deal extra damage when you Immobilize the boss.
  • Four pieces: Reduces cooldown time for the Immobilize spell.

You can drastically increase your chance at victory by crafting this armor set from Yarn, Silk, and the power of Will.

Lastly, make sure you have the Jade Fang. This can be acquired by defeating the Whiteclad Noble. The item will allow you to construct the Twin Serpents staff weapon, which increases the damage of your light attack combos and gives you a valuable offensive edge in battle.

Understanding the Black Wind King’s Attacks

The Black Wind King has a variety of powerful attacks that you need to understand and counter effectively:

  1. Jumping Spear Thrust: He opens the fight with a jumping spear thrust and catches him mid-air before launching forward and infusing his spear with Black Wind. To counter, dodge the initial spear thrust and the follow-up slashes. Strike back when he finishes his combo.
  2. Black Mist Transformation: The King transforms into a black mist to be completely invulnerable. You are unable to hit him for a few seconds. So this doesn’t prove detrimental; maintain distance and be ready to dodge his dashes. Additionally, he uses the Immobilize spell before he transforms to stop the attack.
  3. Disappearing and Reappearing Attacks: The King often disappears and reappears during the fight so he can off-guard you with fast attacks when you're not ready for them. Here, you must actively and carefully track his movements. Stay alert, and always be prepared to dodge his sudden strikes.
  4. Fire Breath Attack: He takes a drink from his Gourd and unleashes a sweeping arc of fire. You can prevent this attack by hitting him immediately as he starts to drink to prevent the flames.
  5. Increased Aggression: Once the Black Wind King drops under 25% health, he gets more aggressive and disappears or reappears more frequently. Focus on dodging his attacks and wait for safe opportunities to strike. Do not use the Immobilize spell because it’s less effective during this phase.

To defeat the Black Wind King, follow these strategies:

Use the Red Tides transformation spell at the start of the fight for serious damage.

Your best line of defense against the King's constant attacks is to dodge. Timing them perfectly will help you escape most of his moves. Naturally, this requires players to take time to study the Black Wind King’s attacks.

Keep the Immobilize spell prepared when the boss gets ready to change into a black mist. Doing so lets you freeze him in place and unleash a powerful combo. The Black Wind King’s health bar isn’t large, but his attacks are fast and relentless.

While the former is a major advantage, you need to compensate for the latter through quick reaction. Find opportunities to attack while being careful not to overextend yourself. Lastly, watch out for moments when the King attempts to heal by drinking from his Gourd. Interrupting this action as soon as possible prevents him from regaining his health.
