Season 1 of Marvel Rivals will launch with the arrival of two new heroes, Mr. Fantastic and the Invisible Woman—the first half of the Fantastic Four.
While the two already look great in their default appearances, NetEase is also giving them skins based on their more evil counterparts from the comics—and no, that doesn’t mean Reed has a Doctor Doom skin.
The Maker and Malice
As officially revealed by NetEase, Mr. Fantastic and the Invisible Woman will be getting appearances based on their evil variants, The Maker and Malice. Here’s a look at Reed:
… and here’s the reveal for Sue’s evil variant:
Though both are variants of one of Marvel’s most famous couples, only the Maker has been able to have one of the more major roles in the comics. The emote of his smashing two Earths together was something he did in the comics, where parallel dimensions would crash with each other and kill everyone inhabiting them.
On the other hand, Malice was Sue's evil persona from the 1960s. It was said to be the negative aspect of Sue’s personality that Psycho-Man awakened after she was in a state of emotional instability. Malice is referenced repeatedly, and other people have also taken on the mantle—including Black Panther’s love interest, Nakia.
How To Get the Maker and Malice Skins
Though Season 1 of Marvel Rivals is coming with free skins for players, the Maker and Malice will not be any of them. As it turns out, the only way to get the skins is to purchase them in the Marvel Rivals digital store with Lattice. While no official prices have been revealed yet, fans can expect them to be worth 1800-2200 Lattice as per previous skins available in the store.
Admittedly, it’s a bummer that there isn’t a free way to earn the skins, but the game does provide Lattice for players—it just involves a lot of grinding, and even then, it won’t be enough to purchase a high-value cosmetic.
In any case, the skins would probably rotate around the store over the year and may eventually be available for a cheaper price.
Though Marvel Rivals is a free-to-play game, players were expecting the cosmetics to cost a lot—seeing as this is how NetEase will be gaining back their investment for a game that is free to everyone.
Fantastic Season 1
Reed and Sue are only the first half of the Fantastic Four team, and they are expected to have a complete roster by the end of the season.
Johnny Storm/Human Torch and Ben Grimm/The Thing are expected to come to the game mid-season, and, likely, they would also come with some high-value cosmetics during the drop.
Hopefully, there will be some cheaper alternative skins for players who want to add a little variety to their heroes’ looks.
Season 1 of Marvel Rivals launches on Jan. 10. The game is now available for PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC.
