Iron Galaxy, a studio that has built a solid reputation in both original games and porting major titles, is facing an incredibly tough moment in its history.

The studio behind Killer Instinct and Rumbleverse has announced the difficult decision to lay off 66 employees. After years of battling with huge changes in the gaming industry, like studio closures and layoffs, this was their "last resort" to keep the studio afloat.

The company posted on its website that while it regrets having to make this choice, it’s necessary to deal with the current economic struggles and ensure long-term stability.

Established in 2008, Iron Galaxy has made its mark by developing unique titles and providing support for large-scale projects. The company has worked on co-developing and porting titles like Overwatch, The Last of Us Part II Remastered, and Metroid Prime Remastered.

The studio's most recent original title, Rumbleverse, a wrestling-themed battle royale, unfortunately, shut down just six months after its 2022 release. This was a tough blow for the company, especially since they were banking on the game to boost their standing.

Despite its efforts to get things in line, the studio admitted it had "run out of room" to make further changes that would allow it to keep all employees.

To ensure its future stability, Iron Galaxy reduced its workforce by 66, which includes developers and support staff. This news is happening against the backdrop of a wider trend that has been shaping the gaming sector. Over the past few years, the industry has witnessed major layoffs and even the closure of well-known studios.
