More and more Leviathan-type monsters are joining the roster in Monster Hunter Wilds after Capcom released the launch trailer to celebrate the game’s upcoming release, which is mere days away.
The trailer showcased a substantial amount of footage, from the 14 weapon types to the terrifying Apexes that dominate the Forbidden Lands. We’re already familiar with three of the Apexes thanks to Capcom’s previous showcases. Now, the fourth and final Apex, named Jin Dahaad, is a massive ice leviathan that takes up a significant portion of the map.
Jin Dahaad is the Apex monster of the game’s fourth biome, the Iceshard Cliffs. It dominates the area, surrounded by an army of monsters native to the locale, including the newly revealed Hirabami, a floating leviathan with a centipede-like structure.
From what we’ve seen in the launch trailer, Jin Dahaad is massive and, interestingly enough, shares the same skeleton with another iconic monster from the franchise: the Lagiacrus. Jin can conjure massive ice blocks to defend itself and uses the Iceshard Cliffs' harsh Frostwinds to its advantage.
But the Ice Apex isn’t the only newly revealed Leviathan in the game. The slippery and graceful Mizutsune will make its return as part of Monster Hunter Wilds’ free title updates. Players who have experienced previous entries, especially Monster Hunter Rise, will find the return of Mizutsune a welcome addition. As one of the members of the old-gen’s Fated Four, Mizu is an agile leviathan that can conjure bubbles and inflict bubbleblight on hunters, causing them to slip and fall.
Title updates are seasonal additions to the game that introduce a wealth of new content such as monsters and events. This practice was evident in Monster Hunter World and Iceborne, where we received Alatreon and Fatalis, as well as in Rise with Primordial Malzeno and Lucent Nargacuga.
Mizutsune is just the first monster to arrive in the game post-launch, and Capcom is determined to add more to its already massive roster. Who knows? We might see more fan favorites like Zinogre and Tigrex down the line.
