Lords of the Fallen has been released to decent reviews but the game does have its fair share of bugs that need to be fixed. It seems that this was inevitable, as a developer of the RPG claims that converting to Unreal Engine 5 actually ‘broke’ the game.
A recent post on 4Chan supposedly comes from one of the game’s developers, who claims that this reboot was originally made with Unreal Engine 4 in mind. The dev also claims that CiGames and HexWorks got too ambitious, switching to Unreal 5 so this project could look like a proper AAA title.
Switching to Unreal 5 damaged the Soulslike quite a bit, as a ton of development had to get downgraded so that everything could work. It also doesn’t help that none of the developers has experience working with Unreal 5, assuming that the dev is correct, of course.
Developers reportedly asked for another year to work on Lords of the Fallen but that request was denied. Like many rushed titles before it, the decision to release it on time was to appease investors who wanted the RPG out at a specific time.
While things aren’t looking great for this reboot, all hope isn’t lost yet. Even with the lack of experience and botched released, the devs are still working on improving the Soulslike. The dev also reveals plans for two DLC expansions, which should gain a good amount of interest from Soulslike fans.
Prior to the report, most of us figured that the Xbox Series version would be the only bad port of this title. After all, HexWorks claims that the PS5 and PC versions are just fine, while the Xbox port needs work before it gets to their level. If the angry developer is correct, the lack of Unreal 5 experience and porting down to Series S probably affected the overall Xbox version.
