With barely a week until release, more and more reveals have been made for Marvel Rivals, and the latest map to be announced is that of the Symbiote planet of Klyntar.

It’s a relatively new planet when it comes to the Marvel universe in general, but it does set the stage for one of Marvel’s biggest villains, the Father of the Symbiotes—Knull.

Klyntar: Symbiotic Surface

After the recent HYDRA Base reveal, Marvel Rivals has gone on to give a look at the home planet of the symbiotes, Klyntar. Not only does the planet have its place in the lore, but it looks like it will be part of a story mission involving Venom and the Guardians of the Galaxy.

The official description reads:

“In the Timestream Entanglement vortex, Knull awakens as a living time crystal, gradually regaining his power and asserting control over the symbiote cluster on Klyntar.

“Sensing the looming threat, Venom rushes to seize the throne before Knull fully revives, leading to an intense tug-of-war!

“As the Milano malfunctions and crash-lands in the ruins of Klyntar, a fierce clash erupts. The Guardians of the Galaxy team up with Venom to escort Knull’s crystal ship. They decide to join forces against Knull. Who will ultimately emerge victorious?”

The video also reveals a symbiote creature that is kind of unleashed from a barrier. It’s not clear if this is going to be a different character, but it’s possible that it could be Knull.

Who is Knull and Why is He a Big Deal?

Knull was created back in the 2010s and doesn’t have the same kind of history like Doctor Doom or Galactus, but he is considered to be a Thanos-level threat in the Marvel Universe.

A being that’s existed before the creation of the universe, Knull was said to be the origin of all the symbiotes (i.e., Venom, Shriek, etc.), and he resided in the planet of Klyntar. What’s interesting is, ‘Klyntar’ actually means ‘cage’ in the alien language; which means that the planet was just a place to keep Knull from destroying everything else in the universe.

On another note, the prison planet from the first Guardians of the Galaxy is also called the ‘Kyln’, but it’s probably just a coincidence that it sounds like Klyntar.

With his Necrosword a.k.a. the Godslayer, Knull had enough power to actually take out a Celestial. Though Knull was only teased in Venom: The Last Dance, the Necrosword actually showed up in Thor: Love and Thunder as the weapon of Gorr the Godbutcher (Christian Bale).

The Future is Knull

With Knull expected to be the main villain of Sony’s Spider-Man spinoff films, it would make sense for him to be incorporated in other games like Marvel Rivals.

Though he could very well be a playable character, surely there are some fans who would love to go against him in a PvE combat mission—which sounds a lot like what’s going to happen with the Guardians and Venom. Hopefully more will be revealed soon.

Marvel Rivals is set to launch on Dec. 6 for PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC.
