Marvel Rivals: How To Trigger Recursive Destruction

How To Trigger Recursive Destruction

How To Trigger Recursive Destruction

The Midtown map in Marvel Rivals has a unique mechanic called Recursive Destruction that you might have come across.

Players can use this to return destroyed objects to normal, giving them new chances to get tactical.

Whether you're focused on missions or achievements or just playing around with the environment, learning to spot those red structures and trigger the effect will give you an advantage.

This guide will walk you through how to trigger this powerful mechanic and maximize your time in Midtown.

How To Trigger Recursive Destruction

To trigger Recursive Destruction, the first thing you need to do is pick the Midtown map.

This map is the only one with structures that can go through Recursive Destruction.

Select the Quick Play: Midtown option in the match queue to play on this map.

This ensures your match will take place in Midtown, unlike the regular Quick Play, where you might end up on any map.

If you’re doing Recursive Destruction missions, stick to the Midtown-only mode during Midnight Features so you don’t waste time looking for the correct map.

Just use Chrono Vision to track down anything you can destroy when you're in.

Press B on your keyboard (or the right D-pad on consoles), and Chrono Vision will call out destructible terrain in yellow and objects involved in Recursive Destruction in red.

Most importantly, it will show objects associated with Recursive Destruction in red.

You’ll need to find these red structures and take them out to make this feature work.

For the record, Recursive Destruction works only on red-glowing objects, not every destructible object.

Make sure to look out for them, as they are the ones that reset when damaged.

These objects only appear in a couple of spots, and both are tied to checkpoints in the game.

You might find structures like rubble piles or ruined buildings, and repeatedly attacking them will trigger the Recursive Destruction effect.

There are two main places in Midtown where you can set off Recursive Destruction.

A big pile of rubble at Central Station comes alive after the convoy reaches the first checkpoint.

The next set of buildings is a series of collapsed ones that appear after the convoy passes the second checkpoint.

These structures will not appear until the convoy reaches those checkpoints, so keep moving and make sure to reach those areas to interact with them.

Once you clear the checkpoints, the red-highlighted things are fair game, and you can trigger the Recursive Destruction effect.

Once the convoy passes the checkpoints and you see the red structures in Chrono Vision, start removing them.

The difference with this mechanic is that, instead of simply breaking objects into rubble, it restores them to their original form, essentially "rebuilding" the environment.

For example, a Hulkbuster suit that falls could get wrecked and then turned into a new building, offering fresh cover or changing up the routes.

Remember that Recursive Destruction activates only after the convoy hits certain checkpoints.

As a defender, you'll need to wait until the attacking team moves the convoy to the next checkpoint before you can do anything with the red-highlighted objects.

You can trigger these areas right after reaching the checkpoints if you're on the offensive.

Don't bother attacking destructible objects before the checkpoints – it won't make a difference.

Instead, focus on getting the convoy going and use Recursive Destruction when it’s time to drop it.

Interestingly, you don’t need to be the one actually to cause the destruction; if a teammate triggers it, you will still earn credit for the achievement.

Some heroes are naturally more equipped to trigger Recursive Destruction, especially those with powerful damage or ranged attacks.

Heroes like Iron Man, The Punisher, or Hulk are great picks because their powers allow them to easily hit far-off structures and do the damage needed.

If you're having trouble triggering it, just hit up your team. Someone else might be going for the same thing, so you can knock it out together.

It’s important to remember that while triggering Recursive Destruction is helpful, it should not be at the expense of other mission objectives.

If you linger too much on these destructible areas, you might lose track of the bigger goal, so find a good balance.
