Marvel Rivals may be in the middle of Season 1 right now, but the game has also been gearing up to celebrate the Lunar New Year (just like Overwatch does every year).
While Zodiac-themed skins have been released over the past few weeks, a new trailer for the Spring Festival event reveals a new game mode that many Overwatch fans would immediately recognize as Lucio Ball.
Marvel Rivals Spring Festival: Clash of Dancing Lions
In a newly released trailer, fans get a look at new Zodiac-themed skins for Iron Fist, Black Widow, and Star-Lord; plus, there’s also a look at a new game mode, which is said to be called Clash of Dancing Lions.
“May the golden lion's mane guide your fortune and strengthen you this season. Join the celebration now and let the magic of the Spring Festival unfold!”
Players will be put in teams of three and have to fight each other to get a ball through a goal at the opposite end of an arena. Playable characters for the mode are chosen for their mobility abilities—Iron Fist with his kicks, Star-Lord with his flight, and Widow with her ability to sprint with the ball.
Like Lucio Ball, the goal is probably to score the most points before the time runs out.
How is it Different from Lucio Ball?
For context, Overwatch’s Lucio Ball is generally the same, except that the teams only consist of one hero, Lucio, known for his mobility and abilities to boop players (or, in the case of the game mode, balls).
In Clash of Dancing Lions, each player has a different set of abilities, and it is up to them to determine the best strategy based on their strengths. This certainly adds another layer of complexity to this mode.
It’s probably worth mentioning that the ball in Lucio Ball is fairly larger—even bigger than the characters.
What Else is Coming for Spring Festival
Besides the Clash of Dancing Lions event, the Spring Festival has some interesting cosmetic events. There’s a Gallery Card Customization Event called Fortune & Colors, plus players will also be able to claim unique limited rewards, including a special nameplate and free Star-Lord skin.
The other skins available for the event will likely only be purchased through the in-game store. In addition to special skins for Iron Fist, Black Widow, and Star-Lord, characters like Squirrel Girl and Moon Knight have also received some event-specific skins that are expected to be available for only a limited time.
No end date has been revealed for the Spring Festival event, but it could run from February to early March. In the meantime, players should check to see what limited cosmetics they can earn.
Marvel Rivals Spring Festival event launches on Jan. 23. The game is now available for PC, Xbox Series X|S, and PS5.
