Marvel Rivals may be free-to-play, but fans know that the game will make most of its money on cosmetics, and the Chinese New Year just dropped some great skins for Moon Knight and Squirrel Girl to commemorate the Lunar New Year.

While the skins are available at the store now, fans are wondering how long they will be available. Some have said they will only be available for a short time, but insiders have confirmed that this is not the case.

When Do Lunar New Year Skins Expire?

According to insider Miller Ross, the Lunar General and Cheerful Dragoness skins will be ‘permanent additions to the store’ and won’t be removed from the rotation.

Though Ross confirms that the cosmetics will be permanently available, the packs are currently discounted, which is exclusive to the Lunar New Year event.

The original price for Lunar General is 3300, but it is currently discounted to 2200; for Cheerful Dragoness, the original price was 2200, but it is now available for 1600.

It’s worth noting that each bundle also includes several other cosmetics, such as MVP highlights specific to the skins, emotes, banners, and sprays.

Though no mention has been made of when the discounts for the Lunar New Year skins will end, some think it’s safe to say that they will be available in the spotlight until mid-February. After that, it’s possible that they will be available from time to time in the store.

Is There a Free Way to Get the Skins?

Unfortunately, there is no free way to get the Lunar New Year skins, but the best that NetEase offers for now is the discounted price in the store.

They could be available to purchase with units down the line, but it will probably take a couple of months before that’s possible. NetEase will likely want to milk these new skins while they’re shiny and new.

Still an Overwatch Clone?

With Overwatch essentially paving the way for the hero shooter genre, it wasn’t surprising that Marvel Rivals would take some notes from the OW playbook.

Sure, the devs are adamant that they don’t need a role queue for the game, but they’re still doing big cosmetic drops during the holidays, and Lunar New Year is the perfect event to come up with several new themed skins and have games spend their precious New Year’s money.

Who knows, maybe the reveal of the Season One Luxury Battle Pass will reveal some more Lunar New Year skins. With the season expected to run for a few months, it would be best to stick with the theme.

Then again, it should be expected that the BP also has some non-Lunar New Year-themed items just for the sake of players who don’t celebrate the holiday.

The Lunar New Year skins are now available at the in-game store and don’t have an expiry date. Marvel Rivals is available for Xbox Series X|S, PS5, and PC.
