In Elden Ring, you'll first be tasked with choosing a class, and being able to use magic is one feature that many of them possess. Magic, like general combat, is cast using your FP points and can make or break a challenging fight.

Magic, and upgrading how many spells you know, works a little differently to that of FromSoftware's spiritual predecessors. Players must collect a specific resource from quelling bosses and dungeons to be able to learn additional spells, and then they must learn their spells using Memory Slots, too.

Without further ado, we're going to delve into how you can unlock more Memory Slots and learn new spells in Elden Ring.

How to Unlock Spell Slots in Elden Ring

If you're planning to utilise magic and incantations in your play through of Elden Ring, you'll want to learn some spells. However, the number of spells that you can know and use simultaneously primarily depends on how many Memory Slots you have.

Things are a little different now, than that of prior FromSoftware games. Your character will no longer unlock new Memory Slots as they level up, but they will need to locate specific items around The Lands Between instead: Memory Stones.

Memory Stone Locations

Memory Stones can be found after defeating main bosses and clearing out Legacy Dungeons, and each Memory Stone you gather can be used to grant you one more Memory Slot. Using Memory Stones, your character can have a maximum of ten Memory Slots without any specific stats required.

The easiest way to get a Memory Stone early on is to visit the Roundtable Hold. There is a merchant here called the Twin Maiden Husks who will sell you one.

How to Learn New Spells in Elden Ring

Let's say you've got a handful of Memory Slots now. Next, you want to fill those slots with spells or incantations so that you may actually use them during combat. To do this, or change your memorised spell for a different one, you will need to visit a nearby Site of Grace.

When you're there, you can then choose to memorise spells. Most spells will use one slot, but some, more powerful ones, may require two. Keep this in mind as you go ahead and learn new spells!

That's all you need to know when it comes to unlocking more Memory Slots and learning new spells in Elden Ring. For more on the game, check out our guides on the bosses - specifically how to face Margit the Fell Omen - and where to get Golden Seeds and Larval Tears.
