The OG Power Rangers are back in adorable pixel-art form with Mighty Morphy Powers Ranger’s Rita’s Rewind, a new 2D beat-em-up designed for longtime fans. While it may not be the AAA Rangers adventures fans have always craved, this new beat-em-up should satisfy fans of the iconic action series.
Revealed during Summer Game Fest alongside games such as LEGO Horizon Adventure, Rita’s Rewind is a classic 90s beat-em-up adventure. Supporting 5-player co-op in both local and online modes, the new arcade title is a new game in the style of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Shredder’s Revenge.
Rita’s Rewind features an “storyline that both respects and remixes Power Rangers lore with scenarios and gameplay that will be both familiar and new to MMPR fans.” Alongside the classic sidescroller sections, you’ll also be able to engage in fast-paced driving sections on your ranger’s classic vehicles.
With a robotic Rita Repulsor behind the scenes, Robo-Rita, you’ll battle through some of the most iconic scenarios against some of the franchise’s greatest foes. Combined with gorgeous pixel-art visuals, this could be one of the best Power Ranger games ever released.
“Players will brawl, blast, fight, and drive through a constantly shifting mix of classic game genres and fan-favorite moments from the series,” the game’s description reads. “Will the two Ritas and their army of monstrous enemies from across the MMPR timeline finally succeed in destroying the Power Rangers? Or will these teenagers with attitude learn to work together and counter this catastrophic chronological collaboration?”
While the previous Power Rangers game, Battle for the Grid, was great in its own right, Rita’s Rewind looks genuinely fantastic. With a rough history of games behind it, this could end up being the best Power Rangers game in decades. (Does anyone else remember that terrible Power Rangers SPD game?)
Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: Rita’s Rewind currently has no release date, but it will release on Xbox, PlayStation, PC and Nintendo Switch.
