The creations of Minecraft players can range from the wacky to the ingenious, with massive masterpieces like a futuristic cricket stadium, a faithful recreation of GTA Online’s Diamond Casino, or even a working kebab machine being a regularity in blockland.
Sometimes the quirky nature of these projects reflects the creator’s other interests and, for a select few players, this means that their love of retro tech gains a blocky outlet.
After all, when you’ve already succeeded in bringing the game to PS1, giving it the Windows XP treatment is the only logical next step, right?
Minecraft maestro brings old school vibes to blockland
The thread addressing this important question in the subreddit r/Minecraft began with a post from user Setryyk, who shared an image of their attempt to bring a taste of the early 2000s to Minecraft, captioning it: “I Recreated the Windows XP "Bliss" Wallpaper in Minecraft!”
Many of their Minecraft brethren were impressed by this feat, with user MilkyKarlson saying: “Pure nostalgia. Great work OP” and bkanvis adding: “It's so simple but I love it so much.”
Several expressed a desire to use an image of the creation as their actual desktop background, prompting Setryyk to reveal that they’ve made a wallpaper engine version of their snap of the creation, for those who find clicking and saving to be a little too barbaric.
On the other hand, user ProMaste_r said: “I want a schematic of your build. I really want to recreate it in Minecraft too”, leading Setryyk to provide them with just that.
The creation also garnered some attention from those outside of the Minecraft sphere, with user Vidiot27, who said: “I don’t play Minecraft, sorry to those who might be upset about that but I just came here from r/all. This is incredibly well done and I salute you for your hard work, the nostalgia is real for those who are actually old enough to remember.”
Meanwhile, a couple of visitors revealed that they’ve been to the real world location featured in the original background, with user discardedMenace saying: “So pretty! The hill in the photo is near where I live and I pass it while driving often. It's a vineyard now”, referencing the spot in Sonoma, California.
Regardless of whether you’d be open to going on a Windows XP-inspired pilgrimage to the iconic hill, make sure to follow us for more Minecraft mods and Roblox updates as new content arrives in both block-based games.
