Reddit has one of the most active user bases on the entire internet, and the incredible popularity of R/Place is a perfect example of that. Our R/Place mobile guide will explain exactly what this limited-time feature is, and how you can attempt to get involved in r/place on your mobile device.

This mosaic-based community project only comes around once in a while, and the chances are a subreddit you're in is making its own block-based masterpiece. While it may seem simple on the surface, the community spirit behind it is quite strong, so it's definitely worth knowing how to join in on the fun.

Elsewhere, another block-based platform is Roblox. We've got Blox Fruits codes and Pet Simulator X codes if you want to dive into the biggest games out there. That's on top of a Critical Legends tier list for this combat-focused Roblox RPG.

What Is R/Place?

R/Place is, simply put, one of Reddit's most bizarre and fan-driven communities. It first appeared on April Fools' Day 2017, before coming back after a five-year absence on April 1, 2022.

R/Place made its return for a third time on 20 July, 2023, much to fan criticism due to recent changes to the site, particularly on mobile.

On a basic level, R/Place is a collaborative mosaic board, where any Reddit user can place a tile of their choice onto one of the thousand-strong board. There's a range of colours to choose from, and you can place one tile every five minutes, where there's a cooldown.

It's particularly noteworthy because fan communities and subreddits often co-ordinate to organise their own designs on the R/Place board. For example, members of the Star Wars subreddit have united to make two tributes to the films, with hundreds of members responsible for placing their individual tiles in the design and ensuring it's safe from vandalism.

Yes, battles and vandalism are a big part of R/Place, especially in the early periods. Each day after its launch, Reddit has gradually increased the parameters of the board, so there's more room for artwork. However, prior to that, a lot of groups will fight to maintain control of a certain spot, while others may unite to try and take it for their own interest.

Equally, it can have quite a poignant meaning. Streamers like Asmongold and RubberRoss have rallied their legions of fans to design touching tributes to late celebrities like TotalBiscuit and Reckful. There's a lot less competition for those spaces, with Reddit users recognising the importance of letting their legacies sit proudly on R/Place.

Overall, though, it's like a sandbox for budding Reddit artists and communities to flex their muscles and pay tribute to their favourite interests. It's also a place where you can lose hours trawling through each of the intricate designs!

How Do I Use R/Place on Mobile?

Luckily, checking out R/Place on your mobile devices is quite easy. Of course, you'll need to have the Reddit app installed on your iPhone or Android device, and you'll need to be logged into a valid account. Otherwise, you won't be able to place a tile.

An important reminder is that with recent changes to the Reddit API, third-party apps are not usable. So if you're not a fan of the official mobile Reddit app, you're out of luck this time.

Next, tap the pixelated 'P' logo at the top-right of the Reddit homepage, or the 'New From Reddit' banner. Either will take you to the R/Place subreddit. Then tap the snippet of the mosaic you see from that page, then it'll take you to the overall space. From there you can pan around the designs and pinch to zoom in and out.

Once you've had a good look at the current state of R/Place, you may want to place a tile of your own. Zoom in to find a specific co-ordinate and you'll get a tile-sized cursor showing where it will be placed, as well as which user most recently put something there. Tap 'Place Your Tile' and you can pick the colour of your choice. Then hit the tick, then your tile will be added to R/Place.

Remember that you can only place one tile every five minutes, so make sure you're happy with your spot before confirming it. Otherwise you'll have to wait around for the timer to reset.

When Does R/Place Close?

R/Place is a truly limited event. For reference, the last time it was around in April 2022, it was only available for four days. Expect a similar timeline this time, making it a truly "you had to be there" experience for all Redditors.

That's it for our look at how to use R/Place on mobile! Remember that its days are very much numbered, so be sure to get in on the fun while you still can.
