Mark Grigsby, studio animation director at Infinity Ward describes the AI improvements allow players “to engage with it in a different way every single time,” suggesting a multitude of ways to deal with the opposition.
The developer collaborated with Navy SEALs to guarantee the AI acts in a realistic manner when it comes to hunting you down during a campaign mission. These improvements mean players can choose to “engage or disengage” from situations which avoid a sense of repeatability when working through a mission.
Grigsby also mentions how the AI will act when being shot at. “They’re preserving their lives and making sure they’re not going to get shot by me,” adding even more realism compared to previous titles where AI often behaved in unusual ways.
Alongside the campaign, AI will appear in multiplayer which is an interesting prospect. Does it operate bots that appear in a multiplayer lobby that’s not reached its full player count? We will have to wait and see when the Call of Duty Next event takes place and reveals more about Infinity Ward’s plans
