The arrival of a ranked playlist in Modern Warfare 2 has injected a breath of fresh air into Infinity Ward’s latest release. The first competitive mode for the Modern Warfare series sees players work through a new set of ranks across a range of maps and modes.
With everyone getting to grips with the same rules and regulations used by those competing in the Call of Duty League (CDL), Several players found a loophole allowing them to use the ISO Hemlock assault rifle despite it not featuring in the official rules.
Following a surge in the rifle’s popularity, Infinity Ward has decided to implement a ban, much to the delight of fans dropping into the action.
ISO Hemlock banned from ranked play
On February 22, players editing their ranked play loadouts were quick to notice the inability to select the rifle.
While some are left confused by the restriction, fans of competitive Modern Warfare 2 are thrilled by the news. “Props to the dev team for getting this thing out fast,” comments one fan. “Strong DLC guns banned by the pros have often been left in ranked and not banned in a timely manner or if at all.”
On the other hand, the disappearance of the ISO Hemlock means the ranked play meta features even less choice. The TAQ-56 and the Vaznev 9K are dominating matches as the best AR and the best SMG to use and unless there are any major changes, this pairing will continue to feature in ranked play for the foreseeable future.
Despite the lack of variety, one player may have found a new contender to make an impact in ranked play matches. “You gotta hear me out…try the M16,” comments one fan who believes the rifle has what it takes to dominate mid-range engagements. After testing it, we’re not convinced.
