The return of the coveted Modern Warfare 2 name in 2022 piqued the interest of franchise fans. Infinity Ward’s most recent release has managed to set itself apart from its predecessor and features a few subtle references to Call of Duty 4’s hugely popular sequel.

Over the course of Season 3, the developer plans on releasing a wealth of cosmetic items for players to purchase alongside the Battle Pass and BlackCell bundle which are packed with content to unlock. In addition to the new arrivals, one bundle, in particular, has caught the eyes of several community members looking to take a trip down memory lane.

For those that aren’t fans of the current weapon audio blasting throughout multiplayer, a throwback bundle gives players the option to switch weapon sounds to a selection from 2009’s Modern Warfare 2.

Ahead of the new update rolling out, Infinity Ward shared some of the bundles making their way to the in-game store over the next few weeks. The Throwback Pack: ‘09 Weapon Audio Bundle will transform various sounds for an instant hit of nostalgia.

It’s unclear which sounds will change but there are many that hope it will adjust the audio for the FXJ Imperium which heavily resembles the iconic Intervention sniper rifle. “Wonder if it’s gonna be for specific guns,” comments one fan.

Although there are plenty of players looking forward to hearing the sounds from 2009’s Modern Warfare 2, there are many that believe the bundle is another example of Activision capitalising on the nostalgia. “They will really recycle anything,” says one player.

2022’s Modern Warfare 2 is no stranger to taking trips down memory lane. The first two seasons of post-launch content saw the returns of Shipment, Shoot House, and Dome while Season 3 will see a weapon that heavily resembles the Intervention make its debut. For those that aren’t fans of nostalgia, there’s still plenty of original content arriving in the next major update.
