The full launch of Modern Warfare 2 is on the horizon much to the excitement of fans. Those who pre-ordered Infinity Ward’s latest offering are delving into the early access campaign to complete the story before dropping into multiplayer for the first time.

Modern Warfare 2’s campaign reunites players with Task Force 141 in a brand-new blockbuster packed with twists and the usual dose of incredible gunplay. While many are enjoying the campaign without any issues, the experience of one fan has come to an abrupt end.

Without explanation, a Modern Warfare 2 player has received an unexpected ban much to their confusion.

Banned for playing the campaign

In the majority of cases, Activision issues a ban for those caught cheating in multiplayer matches but for Reddit user “Bender99342,” the ban hammer has swung during their campaign experience. “I was banned from single-player game for some reason,” states the user.

According to the game’s error message, the reason behind the ban is codenamed “CaseRMA - Rhino” which could mean anything. According to other users, there’s a simple reason behind the false ban. User “MarvinTheMartian47” says players are falling victim to the ban hammer “after they tried Steam’s validate files feature when the game is running.” The user suggests Ricochet anti-cheat considers the method as file manipulation resulting in a ban.

It’s not just Steam players experiencing the problem. Those who perform a “Scan and Repair” on Battle.net also receive an unexpected ban which is pretty concerning with the launch of Modern Warfare 2 multiplayer right around the corner.

Multiplayer launches with Ricochet anti-cheat active as soon as the servers are switched on as Activision continues to stop cheaters from ruining matches for the rest of the community. If your account is banned when playing the campaign, head to Activision Support to appeal the decision.
