Celebrity crossovers in Call of Duty are nothing out of the ordinary. Whether it’s a number of famous faces appearing in a launch trailer or making their way to multiplayer as a playable operator, celebrities from all areas continue to drop into the action.
With the launch of Modern Warfare 2 on the horizon, sporting superstars such as Arsenal’s Bukayo Saka and Formula One driver Lando Norris feature in Activision’s latest release trailer and if recent leaks are anything to go by, more footballers are heading into the Call of Duty universe.
According to a new leak, Neymar, Paul Pogba, and Lionel Messi will appear in Infinity Ward’s latest release.
Football legends arrive to Call of Duty
Notable Call of Duty leaker @TheGhostOfHope claims the names of the footballers are among several unreleased operators expected to launch over the course of the Modern Warfare 2 cycle. With the World Cup taking place next month, a collaboration involving some of the best players in the world wouldn’t be a surprise.
In recent months, the likes of Snoop Dogg have appeared in the popular shooter franchise complete with an operator skin and a range of themed cosmetics including exclusive weapon blueprints.
The first sports star to appear in a Call of Duty title is NFL running back Marshawn Lynch. He features in Black Ops 3 as the main antagonist in the single-player campaign and although he’s not a playable character, the player paved the way for more crossovers to take place in more recent releases.
